Man, 31, arrested after striking RCMP officer in The Pas, fleeing from home while on house arrest

A man who fled a residence in The Pas while on house arrest was taken into custody during the weekend after he assaulted a police officer.

A 31-year-old man who police say fled from a residence in The Pas while on house arrest was taken into custody during the weekend after he assaulted an RCMP officer.

Policewere called for assistance on Saturday afternoon to a home in The Pas where they found a man who was behaving in a threatening way to other residents, police said in a news release Wednesday.

RCMP attempted to arrest the man, but he struck one of the officers, who sustained serious injuries after falling backwards, police said. The officer has since been released from hospital after receiving treatment.

The man fled the house, but was later spotted on a nearby road by another officer who arrested him.

RCMP said the 31-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation was on house arrest for a previous offence.

He remains in custody charged with assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody, resisting arrest and breach of a release order.
