Manitoba NDP remains unpopular, says Probe Research poll

A new poll conducted by Probe Research shows the NDPwell behind the Progressive Conservatives when it comes to voting preferences.

The poll asked 1,002Manitobansthe following question:"If a provincial election were held tomorrow, which party's candidate would you be most likely to support?

Forty-eight per cent of respondents said they would vote for BrianPallistersPCs. Twenty-sixper cent said they would vote for theNew Democrats. NDP support fellfour per cent from the most recent poll.

Nineteen per cent of those sampled said they would vote for the Liberals, while the remaining six per cent voted for theGreens/Other option.

Voter support for theNDPunder leader and Manitoba premier Greg Selinger has been falling for months, after ahike in the provincial sales tax (PST), and subsequent in-fighting within the party. Selinger will be defending his leadership against Theresa Oswald and Steve Ashton in March.

The poll is considered accurate within plus or minus3.1 percentage points.

TheWinnipeg Free Press commissioned the poll.

A Mainstreet Technologies poll in November showed58 per cent of a sample of 2,019 Manitobans wanted Premier Greg Selinger to resign. It was released days after inner turmoil in the NDPled to the resignation of five cabinet ministers.
