A 35-year-old woman from Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation in Manitoba is dead after two cars crashed about 10 kilometres south of the Lake Manitoba community on Saturday evening, RCMP say in a news release Monday.

A 36-year-old man from Langruth was seriously injured and a 19-year-old man is in critical condition in a Winnipeg hospital.

A two-year-old boy who was belted into a car seat received only minor injuries and was treated at a hospital and released.

Police believe the 19-year-old driver from The Pas was heading south on Highway 50 when he crossed into the northbound lane at Road 99 N., crashing head-on into a car being driven by the Sandy Bay woman, the news release says.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 36-year-old man, who is from Langruth, was a passenger in her car, police said.

The two-year-old was a passenger in the 19-year-old's car.

Police continue to investigate the crash, which happened about 125 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
