Some school divisions cancel classes, buses due to extreme cold

Extreme cold has closed schools in several Manitoba divisions and led to the cancellation of buses in others Wednesday morning.

Temperatures hovered in 30 C to35 C range early in south

A couple of southern Manitoba school divisions have cancelled classes while others cancelled buses due to frigid temperatures. (CBC News)

A few southern Manitoba school divisions have cancelled in-person classes orbuses on Wednesday due to extreme cold warnings in effect through much of the province.

Temperatures were in the30C to 35C range throughthe south as of 7a.m., with wind chill in the low to mid40s.

As a result, in-person classes have been cancelled for Fort La Bosse and Pine Creek school divisions.

Hanover School Division is also closed, though teachers were expected to report to schools for work.

Buses in the Mountain View School Division have been cancelled.

Buses will not be operating outside the city of Brandon in the Brandon School Division.Alexander, O'Kelly and Spring Valley Schools in the Brandon School Division are closed. Brandon School Division buses continue in the city.
