The mother of a man who has been missing for almost two weeks says she is heartbroken by his disappearance and is calling for his safe return.

"This is out of character for my son to be gone at all, let alone 11 days," Valerie Hadath, Scott Hadath's mother, told a room of reporters Friday in Winnipeg.

"It's very disconcerting. We love him very much."

Scott Hadath, 39, was last seen on June 5 in Southdale. He is five feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build, hazel eyes and a beard. Police believe he could be driving a black four-door Mini Cooper with Manitoba licence plate HJB 662.

Valerie Hadath said the family is distraught and Scott's pet doghasn't been coping well with his absence.

"That dog feels just as much pain as we do," she said.

"She would go in the corner, stand outside his door, look at his door, look at me, look at his door. I'd say, 'He's not there.' She'd look at me again, and I'd have to open the door and say, 'He's not there.' Rather than what she normally does, which is run into the room, she'd turn and walk away."

The 'what ifs'

Rob Hadath said his brother has never done anything like this.

"After 11 days, you start storytelling you explore all the 'what ifs' and that's what's been extremely exhausting for us as a family, the not knowing," he said.

"There's a real story, we're just at this point at a loss for what that might be."

Hadathworks in shipping and receiving and his employer and co-workers are all concerned.

"He's a good person and a gentle soul," Rob Hadath said of his brother.
