Muggsy Bogues brings NBA skills to Winnipeg court

Theshortest player in NBA history hit the court in Winnipeg Friday to teach kids a thing or two about basketball.

Muggsy Bogueswas at the downtown YMCA as part of ajunior clinic put onnationwide as part of theNBA All-Star Challenge. The purpose of the clinic is to help spread interest in thegame globally.

"Regardless of what skill level, this allows you to get out there and engage, to participate and take part in something that you can learn some core values, teamwork, to compete[and]about sportsmanship,"the five-foot-three guard, who appeared in the movie SpaceJam, said.

Bogues saidthe challenge is not only about helping young playerssharpen skills it's also about instilling kids with the right attitude.

"We try and give them and instill in them things that their parents would instill in them, true values, how to keep successful in life," Bogues said.

Bogues said it'salso important to encouragekids to stay active and develop good habits for staying healthy at a young age.

"Among ouryouths we have an obesity epidemic around [the U.S.],so we've got tomake sure our youth stay active and healthy," he said.

On Saturday,Boguesand others involved with theNBA All-Star Challenge will be givingpeople of all ages and skill levelsa chancetake part in dunk competitions and shooting contests.

The tour willstop in 14 Canadian cities from now to February.
