NDP promises millions in funding to enhance programs at Manitoba schools

Manitoba NDPLeader Greg Selinger says if he is re-elected premier on April 19, his government will boost school funding every year at or above the rate of economic growth.

He is also promising $50 million for modern technology in classrooms, $30 million for upgrades to shop classes and $20 million to improve science labs.

Selinger says the upgrades would create hundreds of jobs in construction and other related businesses.

The NDP are accusing Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister of planning education cuts, because he has promised to rein in spending and reduce the deficit.

Pallister has said the Tories would not cut front-line services if elected, but would reduce some public-sector costs in administration, communication and other areas.
