Winter storm, snowfall warnings blanket parts of northern Manitoba

A swath of communities north of The Pas and Lake Winnipeg are under snowfall and winter storm warnings Friday.

Flin Flon, Oxford House, Norway House could get 15 to 25 cm of snow; 10 to 15 cm expected in Thompson

Parts of northern Manitoba are expected to get hit with a winter storm as a low pressure system sweeps east from Saskatchewan Friday.

Environment Canada is calling for winter storms fromFlin Flonalong the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border east throughNorway House First Nation toIsland Lake near the Manitoba-Ontario border.

A low pressure system trackingeast fromSaskatchewan is expected to bring 15 to 25 centimetres of snow between FridayandSaturday afternoon before the storm clears. Freezing rain is expected in Norway House and Island Lake Friday night.

Meanwhile just to the north, Thompson, Lynn Lake, Leaf Rapids, Pukatawaganand surrounding communities could receive heavyamounts of snow, according to Environment Canada.

Thompson and Lynn Lake are expected to behit with 10 to 15 cm of snow starting in the afternoon.

Road conditions will be poor in many regions and Environment Canada suggests postponing any non-essential trips until conditions improve.
