Selkirk police chase down driver of crashed stolen truck

RCMP have arrested a man they say stole a truck, crashed it and then left two injured passengers behind as he fled the scene on foot.

Selkirk RCMP have arrested a 26-year-old man they said crashed a stolen pickup truck injuring two female passengers and who he later left behind, when he fled on foot. (CBC)

RCMP have arrested a man they say stole a truck, crashed it and then left two injured passengers behind as he fled the scene on foot.

Police say it all started during asimple traffic stop about 1:10 a.m. on Saturday morning in East Selkirk.

Traffic police noticed a stolentruck driving northbound on Highway 9speeding and driving without tail lights, police said.

Officers asked the driver to turn the truck off, but instead he drove off.

Late that morning, around3a.m., police caught up with the truck after finding it crashed ina ditch along Ferry Road.

The driver got outof the truck and ran, leaving two injured passengers behind.

A 37-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries while a 36-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries, said RCMP.

The 26-year-old male driver who had fled was later arrested and charged with fleeing police and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, among other charges.
