Police recover body of Winnipeg man at West Hawk Lake

Police divers have recovered the body of a 22-year-old man from Winnipeg who drowned when a boat capsized late Saturday night in West Hawk Lake.

Police divers have recovered the body of a 22-year-old Winnipeg manwho drowned when a boat capsized on the weekend in West Hawk Lake.

The man, whose name has not been released,was in afour-metre long aluminum boat with 10 other peoplejust after midnight on Saturdaywhenthe boat was swamped and its engine failed in choppy water.

Everyone else in the boat managed toswim to shore.A local cottager helpedthem untilmedical officials arrived.All were treated and released.

Inclement weather and engine failure contributed to the accident, but alcohol is also believed to be a factor, said RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish.

The man is the13th drowning victim in Manitoba this year, and the seventh in less than a month.

The 12th was also a 22-year-old Winnipeg man. His body was pulled from the Winnipeg River on Saturday.

The man, whose name has also not been released,was fishing with friends near the Powerview hydroelectric dam on Tuesday when he slipped and fell into the fast-moving water.

Police said an autopsy will be performed on the man's body on Monday.
