Racing community holds social for injured Winnipeg jockey

A benefit social is being held Sunday night for Winnipeg Jockey Alyssa Selman, who was seriously injured in a race at Assiniboia Downs in June.

A benefit social is being held Sunday night in honour of Winnipeg Jockey Alyssa Selman, who was seriously injured in a race at Assiniboia Downs last month.

Selman suffered a serious spinal cord injury, and lost use of her legs after she was thrown from her horse during a race on June 27. She has been recovering at the Health Sciences Centre since the accident.

The fundraiser is beingorganized by thehorse racing community, andthe event will be broadcast live on YouTubefrom the Assiniboia Downsbeginning at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Organizers saidcash donations and gifts have been pouring in for thesilent auction.

Ticketsare$15 and trust funds have also been set up at the TD Canada Trust, Assiniboine Credit Union and Access Credit Union.
