Winnipeg police and RCMP are joining forces to crack down on dangerous driving this Thanksgiving weekend.

The two forces are ramping up their presence on city streets and Manitoba highways to nab speeders, drunk drivers, those who don't wear seatbelts and others.

It's part of a national campaign called Operation Impact that aims to keep roads safe when more people are travelling and crashes are more frequent, officers said.

RCMP said 53 people have already died in crashes this year on Manitoba roads.

The campaign will run from Friday until Monday.
