Selinger to host premiers meeting next week

Canada's 13 provincial and territorial premiers are scheduled to meet in Winnipeg late next week discuss Canada's economic recovery, as well as water issues and health care.

Canada's 13 provincial and territorial premiers are scheduled to meet in Winnipeg late next week to discuss Canada's economic recovery, as well as water issues and health care.

It is expected the premiers attending the meeting of the Council of the Federation also will discuss bilateral Canada-U.S. matters and otherinternational initiatives.

"I look forward to welcoming my colleagues to Manitoba and to discussing a number of issues that are important to Canadians," said Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger, who is chairing the meeting. "I am hopeful that we will make progress in some key areas."

The Premiers are to meet in in the northern Manitoba town of Churchill August 4 with the leaders of national aboriginal organizations and continue talks at Winnipeg's Hotel Fort Garry until August 6th.

The Council of the Federation is made up of all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers.
