Selkirk RCMP call man's death a homicide

Police say an unresponsive man found at his home in Selkirk Friday was the victim of homicide.

Paramedics were initially called to the report of a 64-year-old man in cardiac arrest around 9:15 p.m., but they called in police after they noticingsigns of trauma, says RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Paul Manaigre.

"The signs of trauma were clearly evident on our victim," said Manaigreon Sunday.

"When our officers did arrive they determined that the incident itself was a homicide."

Police aren't saying whether a weapon was used or exactly how the man died.

Manaigre said an autopsy is pending, which maydetermine if cardiac arrest was a contributing factor in the man's death.

Selkirk RCMP along with the RCMP Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
