Bomb unit removes airsoft 'grenade' from building behind Portage Place

Members of the Winnipeg Police Servicebomb unit entered a building behind Portage Place today and removed what they described asan airsoft"grenade."

Police were called to a property on Webb Place at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and evacuatedpart of the building. Members of the bomb unit arrived at12:15 p.m. and located and removed the device, which they saidcan cause minor injuries.

Alice McKay, wholives in the building, said her landlord told herabout what she believed was a fakegrenade found lying on the floor of a ninth-storeyhall.

Webb andVaughan Street were closed but have since been reopened.
