Thousands protest against war in Iraq

Thousands of people marched through downtown Winnipeg on Saturday, uniting with millions around the world in a global cry for peace.

Thousands of people marched through downtown Winnipeg on Saturday, uniting with millions around the world in a global cry for peace.

The participants marched from city hall to the Manitoba legislature, where they listened to speeches from peace activists, Iraqis now living in Canada, missionary workers and labour groups.

People at the march say they are hopeful about news the United States is not getting the support it wants from the United Nations in declaring war. However, peace activists say they must remain vigilant and consistent in delivering their message worldwide.

In Brandon, police estimate a crowd of about 200 people participated in an anti-war demonstration.
