The tiger population at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo has grown by two, officials confirmed on Friday.

The tiger population at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo has grown by two, officials confirmed on Friday.

Kendra the 12-year-oldAmur (Siberian)tigerand the two cubs thatarrived Thursday night are doing well, senior veterinarian Chris Enright said.

"Well, so far they seem to be doing everything I would expect a cub their age to be doing, which is mostly laying around mom, having the odd drink and then going to sleep," Enright said. "So we're keeping an eye on them all indications so far are quite good."

The gender of the cubs wont be determined for another eight weeks, Enright said, but any addition to the dwindling number of tigers in the world is good news.

"It's an endangered species every little bit helps so I think it's really nice for us as a zoo to be taking part in this progress," Enright said.

The zoo has enjoyed a long list of successful births this year, including Canadian lynx, red pandas, musk ox and Stone sheep.
