Man mistakenly released from Manitoba jail found

A 27-year-old man charged with manslaughter who had been accidentally released from provincial jailhas been arrested, Winnipeg police say.

A 27-year-old man charged with manslaughter who had been accidentally released from a Manitoba provincial jail has been found and arrested, Winnipeg police say.

Mark Phillip Traverse wasfound by the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unitaround 5:30 p.m. in Gypsumville,a community in Manitoba's Interlake about 240 kilometres north of Winnipeg, city police said in a news release Wednesday evening.

Police had issued a news release a fewhours earlier asking for help in locating Traverse,afterManitoba Justice reported hehad been released in error.

Traverse was charged with manslaughter in the death of Leo Charles Martin-Shea,who wasbeaten on Main Street in Winnipeg at on April 8, 2023.Martin-Shea died 11 days later in hospital, police previously said.

Traverse was not considered a threat to public safety, police said Wednesday afternoon, but they warnedhe shouldn't be approached.

He was arrested without incident, police said.
