Western Manitoba flood watch continues

Uncertainty in the rain forecast has prompted the province to continue a flood watch for western Manitoba.

Uncertainty in the rain forecast has prompted the province to continue a flood watch for western Manitoba that was issued earlier this week.

Provincial flood forecasters said while the prospect for a previouslyexpected deluge of rain over Thursday eveningthrough Friday has diminished, conditions could still change quickly.

Affected areasare the Assiniboine River upstream of Millwoodand the watersheds of the Swan and Red Deer Rivers.

Streams in the Riding, Duck and Porcupine mountain and Interlake regions are also being monitored closely for flooding.

If 50 millimetres of rain were to fall, serious flooding would develop, according to the province, but only about 15 millimetres are now expected.

On Tuesday, forecasters said they expected rainfall of about 75 millimetres.
