Manitoba's New Democratic Party is on the hunt for a candidate to replace St. Johns MLAGord Mackintosh, who declared he would not seek re-election on Friday.

So far, at least one person says they areup for the job.

WinnipeggerAaron McDowell, who is Mynarski wardcity councillor Ross Eadie'sexecutive assistant, said he isseeking the NDP nomination in St. Johns.

He said he was planning to file his nomination papers on Monday, saying he has "a lot to bring to the table."

"I'm really worried about some of the policies that the Liberal party and the Progressive Conservative party are putting forward and this is something I'd like to do," he said.

McDowell has worked as Eadie's assistant since 2010 and a number of people, including friends and family, have encouraged him to run for the NDP, he said.

And he has, once. In the 2011 provincial election, McDowell ran for the NDP in Morden-Winkler.

But McDowell might be up against some competition. Suzanne Hrynyk, who ran for the NDP in Canada's last federal election, said she's considering another run, this time to replace Mackintosh in St Johns.

WhileHrynyk, a nurse, said seeking nomination is apossibility for her, she has not made a final decision.
