Blue Bombers score $7.1M profit from hosting Grey Cup

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers scored big with the 2015Grey Cup even though they weren't in it.

The club announced Monday that it earned a profit of $7.1 million by hosting the CFL championship game in November,in which theEdmontonEskimos beat the OttawaRedblacks2620.

It'smore than double the $3.2 million inprofitsthe team made hosting the Grey Cup in 2006.

The Bombers have used$1.5 million of the 2015 profits to payTriple B Stadium, which owns Investors Group Field, forimprovements that were made aheadof theGrey Cup.The remaining $5.6 million will be used for theclub's long-range financing.

The Bombers'first pre-season game of the 2016 seasonis June 8against Montreal, and thefirst regular season game is June 24, also against the Alouettes.
