Winnipeg Goldeyes' 11-game win streak breaks team record

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have set a new club record by winning 11 games in a row, including fourgamesagainst their arch-rivalsthe Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The team broke its previous longest win streak of 10 games with a 14-4 victory against the RedHawks on Sunday afternoon.

"What makes it really good for us is that Fargo was involved because they are our arch-rival. We swept them here four games straight, so that's pretty exciting for us," Dan Chase, the Goldeyes' director of sales and marketing, told CBC News on Monday.

The Goldeyes' hot streak has put them 9 games ahead ofthe St. Paul Saints, the second-place team in the American Association's North Division, before the season even hits the halfway mark.

"They're just playing really well, from starting pitching to relief pitching to the hitters. Just everything is going really well right now," Chase said.

"Having said all of that, it's a long seasonand it doesn't end until the first day of September."

First baseman Casey Haerther, who was named the American Association's pointstreak player of the week on Monday, said the team is not focusing too much on breaking records.

"The feeling is we haven't lost in a while we're pretty accustomed to winning right now, and I think that's a good way to go about it," he said.

"I don't think we need to look at breaking records and doing stuff like that but, you know, this team's having a lot of fun right now and it's showing on the field."

Chase said the winning streak has not translated into any sold-out games, as the weather is the main factor in whether a game is sold out or not.

A warm, dry summer night translates into more tickets being sold at the gate, he said.

The Goldeyes will be playing some double-headers in the next couple weeks to make up for some rained-out games.

The team plays the Sioux City Explorers tonight at Shaw Park.
