Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba asks for trade from Winnipeg

Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba is looking for a way out of Winnipeg.

The big-framed 22-year-old defenceman has been in trade talks with Jets management since May, his agent Kurt Overhardt said in a statement.

"The situation is not about money; it is solely about our client having the opportunity to realize his potential as a right shot NHL defenceman," the statement from Overhardt reads.

"As a consequence of the Jets depth on the right side, we believe it is in both parties' best interest to facilitate a mutually advantageous trade."

Troubaalso won't be taking part in the team's training camp, his agent added.

Last season, hewas bumped down the lineup behind right-handed defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers.

He heads into the 2016 season as an unsigned restricted free agent.

"Our client has nothing but respect for the people and city of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Jets, its fans, management and ownership our desire to get him moved has everything to do with opportunity," Overhardt said in the statement.

Jets general managerKevin Cheveldayoffreleased a statement on the trade talks Saturday night.

"In the last three seasons, Jacob Trouba has played a key role for the Winnipeg Jets and in our view still represents an important part of the long-term future of our club," Cheveldayoff said in a statement.

"Any decisions made regarding Jacob Trouba will be made in the best interest of the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club."

Troubawentto the Jetsninth overall in the 2012 first round draft.The Rochester, Mich., native has played 211
regular-season games with Winnipeg and has 23 goals and 72 points.
