Jets coach has high hopes Jacob Trouba will stay in Winnipeg

Jets coach Paul Maurice stillhas high hopes Jacob Trouba will stay in Winnipeg, despite the defenceman's desire to be traded.

"I'm a big JakeTroubafan," Maurice said Friday in Winnipeg. "Every player has the right to control his own destiny.I have absolutely no problem with that."

Therestricted free agenthas been in trade talks with Jets management since May, although news of the negotiations only surfaced last weekend.

Trouba's agent released a statement on Sept. 24 saying "the situation is not about money"; rather, thebig-framed22-year-old justwants to play on the right side. Last season, Troubawasbumped down the lineup behind right-handed defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers.

Mauricesaid he is confident everything will get resolved, but he hopes in the end Trouba is back wearing a Jets jersey.

"I do view him as a Winnipeg Jet, and I look forward to him walkingthrough that door and playing with us again," Maurice said.
