Man threatened to kill McDonald's employees, sprayed fire extinguisher during robbery: Winnipeg police

A 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after employees were threatened during a robbery at a North End McDonald's restaurant early Saturday morning, Winnipeg police say.

A man armed with a knife entered the back kitchen area of the fast food restaurant at the corner of Main Street and Mountain Avenue around 3 a.m. Saturday, police say. He threatenedto kill the employees and demanded food, they said.

The employees were able to secure themselves in an office and call 911 for help, Winnipeg police said in a news release.

In the meantime, the man took a fire extinguisher and sprayed the entire kitchen and restaurant area, and then fled, according to police.

Officers spotted him leaving the restaurant and arrested him.

No store employees or customers were injured during the incident, police said.

The 18-year-old has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, mischief over $5,000 and being in possession of cocaine.

He remains in police custody.
