ADQ crushed in greater Montreal area

The Action Dmocratique du Qubec was shut out of the greater Montreal area on Monday night, a region where the party used to hold 17 seats.

The Action Dmocratique du Qubec was shut out of the greater Montreal area on Monday night, losing all 17 of its seats.

The Parti Qubcois won 26 ridings, up from 10 in 2007. The Liberals took 12 seats, up from 11.

The PQ's major gains came in the lower Laurentians, where they took seven seats from the ADQ Blainville, Deux-Montagnes, Groulx, L'Assomption, Masson, Mirabel and Terrebonne. The Liberals hung on to the eighth riding, Argenteuil.

The PQ also dominated the South Shore, with candidates re-elected in Borduas, Marie-Victorin, Taillon, Vachon and Verchres. PQ candidates ousted the ADQ from Chambly and Marguerite-d'Youville.

The Liberals meanwhile, dominated Laval, as they did in 2007, taking all five seats Chomedey, Fabre, Laval-des-Rapides, Mille-les and Vimont.

In other ridings in greater Montreal, the PQ won Beauharnois, Berthier, Bertrand, Iberville, Joliette, Labelle, La Prairie, Prvost, Richelieu, Rousseau, Saint-Hyacinthe and Saint-Jean. The Liberals won in Chteauguay, Huntingdon, La Pinire, Laporte, Soulanges and Vaudreuil.
