Alleged shooter at Quebec City mosque to stand trial in March 2018

The trial for Alexandre Bissonnette, the man alleged to have gunned down six people in a Quebec City mosque last January, has been set for March 26, 2018.

The trial for the man alleged to have gunned down six people in a Quebec City mosque last Januaryhas been set for next March.

Alexandre Bissonettefaces six counts of first-degree murder and sixcounts of attempted murder while usinga restricted firearm.

The six men, between the ages of39 and 60, were killed when a gunman stormed the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centrelast Jan. 29 and opened fire as they were attending prayer.

One of the attempted murder charges involves the35 victims, including four children, who were in close proximity when the alleged attack occurred.

The trial is slated to get underway onMarch 26, 2018 and last about two months.

Crown prosecutor Thomas Jacques said he will present 111 witnesses,but some of those testimonies could be entered in awritten statement.

Bissonnette, 27, appeared in court today for thecase management hearing, where both parties discuss the elements that will be presented during the trial.

The accusedsmiled at the judge when Justice Raymond W.Pronovost thanked him for being present.
