Quebec boy who was subject of Amber Alert found safe, Ugo Fredette taken into in custody

A Quebec boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe by police in Ontario.

Pair found near Dacre, Ont., but search continues for man connected to SUV they were using

A Quebec boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe by police in Ontario.

Ontario Provincial Police arrested Ugo Fredetteafter the pair were found near Dacre, Ont.

Fredettewill appear in an Ontario court for a bail hearing at 10 a.m. via video conference.

Police used a spike belt to disable the Honda CR-VFredette was driving, and arrested him after a brief chase on foot.

Police are now looking for Yvon Lacasse, 71, who is connected to a Honda CRV that Ugo Fredette was driving at the time of his arrest. (Sret du Qubec )

Lacasse is described as bald with brown eyes. He is fivefeet four inches tall and weighs around 155 pounds.

Police said Lacasse could have been dropped off by Fredette along his route from Lachute, which took him through Maniwaki and Rouyn-Noranda before entering Ontario.

Asselin said police are concerned for Lacasse's safety and theyare asking for the public's help to find him.

Nearly 24 hours of uncertainty

The six-year-old boywent missing around 5:35 p.m. ET Thursday.

The AmberAlert was issued for the boy after a woman was found deadat a house onAntoine-SguinBoulevard inSaint-Eustache.

Police have classified Vronique Barbe's death as a homicide, but did not releaseany details.

Fredette's white pickup truck was found abandonedin the early morning hours of Friday at a roadside rest stop in Lachute, Que., northwest of Montreal.

That's where it's believed the pairencountered Lacasse and Fredettecommandeered thedark grey Honda CR-Vthat he was driving.

Fredettethen stayed at a motelin Rouyn-Noranda at some point Thursday night, police said.

On Friday morning police were searchingtwo scenes:onein Lachute, at the rest stop where the truck was found,and the other in Saint-Eustache, where Barbewas found dead.

A team of police divers and a canine unit were involved in searching the Lachute scene and theRivireduNordthat runs through thearea.

The search eventually spread to Ontario after reported sightings there.

Provincial policefinally caught up with the twoaround 5 p.m. Friday along Highway 132 near Dacre in the Ottawa Valley region.
