Autopsies to be done on Quebec doctor's 2 children

Police are probingan apparent double homicide involving a Montreal-area doctor whileautopsies are conducted on his two young children, who were found dead in their home in the small Quebec community of Piedmonton the weekend.

Three-year-old Anne-Sophie Turcotte and five-year-old Olivier Turcotte were found Saturday morning by policewho had been asked to check on the homeby concerned relatives.

They also found the children's fatherat the house, alive and in need of medical attention due to an apparent drug overdose, police said.

The36-year-old cardiologist, whose name has not been confirmed,is a possible suspect inwhat police said appears to be a double slayingand attempted suicide.

When he was taken to theSt-Jerome health and social service centre in the Laurentians for treatment, doctors there realized he was one of their colleagues.

Hospital director Franois Therrien confirmed the man was having marital problems. He and hiswife, who is also a doctor at the hospital,have worked there for about six years.

The man has since been transferred to hospital in Montreal. Police said they will question him as soon as his doctors approve.

The autopsies on the two children were expected to be done Monday or Tuesday in Montreal to determine the cause of death.
