Montreals Bixi bike sharing program has been saved for five more years.

Mayor Denis Coderre announced today that the financially troubled program will return.

Montrealers can take a fair bit of credit for the success of this rescue operation, Coderre said. I said show me your love [for Bixi]. If Bixi were in better shape, we would have had a lot more people sign up.

Yesterday, the not-for-profit board that runs Bixi recommended bringing back the popular service in 2015 and unveiled its five-year plan to keep it afloat.

"Last March, we promised Montrealers efficient, transparent asset management and balanced operations," Coderre said at a news conference at city hall."Bixi Montreal reports show the goods they delivered are up to our expectations."
