Quebec Nov. 9 byelection: Ren-Lvesque

The head of a non-profit agency in Baie-Comeau, the PQ's Martin Ouellet, is running in this PQ stronghold to replace Marjolain Dufour, who has retired after 12 years as the MNA for Ren-Lvesque.

The PartiQubcois'sMarjolainDufourwas first elected in 2003 inRen-Lvesqueand handily re-elected in 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2014.Dufour, 56, retired in September, citing health reasons.

In 2014,Dufourwon for the PQ with 55 per centof the vote, by a majority of 6,663 over the Liberal party.

Riding description

The electoral district ofRen-Lvesque comprises the following municipalities: Baie-Comeau, Baie-Trinit, Chute-aux-Outardes, Colombier, Forestville, Franquelin, Godbout, Les Bergeronnes, Les Escoumins, Longue-Rive, Pointe-aux-Outardes, Pointe-Lebel, Portneuf-sur-Mer, Ragueneau, Sacr-Coeur and Tadoussac.

It includes the Innu communities of Essipit and Pessamit, as well as Lac-au-Brochet and Rivire-aux-Outardes.

Riding history

Until 2003, Ren-Levesque was called Saguenay, before being renamed in honour ofthe founding leader of the Parti Qubcois andQuebec premier.

The riding has almost exclusively voted for the PQ, with the exception of 2002, whenAction dmocratique's Franois Corriveau won in a byelectionbefore being defeated by Dufour a year later.
