Cdrika Provencher case: Man flagged in 2007 remains person of interest

A man considered a person of interest when Cdrika Provencher disappeared eight years ago remains in the sights of investigators now that her remains have been found, according to Radio-Canada.

A man considered a person of interest when Cdrika Provencher disappeared eight years ago remains in the sights of investigators now that her remains have been found, according to Radio-Canada.

Two months after Cdrika disappeared on July 31, 2007 near her home inTrois-Rivires, police announced they were searching for a French-speaking man of medium build between age of30 and 40.

At the time, theSretduQubecsaid he was driving a four-door redAcurasedan with chrome handles and tinted windows.

According to Radio-Canada sources, police have not dismissed that lead, even though no suspect has ever been publicly identified and no one has been arrested in connection with herdeath.

Police believeshe wasapproached by an adult who asked for help to finda missing dog.

TheSretduQubecconfirmed on Sunday it has received new information in the case following the discovery of the body.

The director-general of the Sret, MartinPrud'homme, wouldn't offer details about any new leads.

Snow blankets crime scene

Police ramped up their search for new evidence after Provencher's remains were discovered by hunters in a wooded area near Trois-Rivires, Que., on Friday.

More than 200 officers have been dispatched to search the area for clues over the past several days.

They intensified thesearch earlier this week in an effort to gather as much information as possible while the ground was still clear of snow.

By Wednesday morning, a thin layer of snow had blanketed the area.

Franois Dor, a retiredSretduQubec officer who worked on the case, described the discoveryof theremains as "a major step" in the investigation.

He said improved DNA-identification methods could help police build a case.
