COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know on Friday

Cases are up in the regions, karaoke is officially banned and students will be allowed to resume extracurricular activities. Here's what you need to know.

  • Quebec reported 219 new cases of COVID-19 andthree more deaths on Friday. Two other deaths were removed from the total because they are no longer attributable to COVID-19. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been64,463confirmedcases and5,774people have died.

Quebec recorded 219 cases on Friday, the highest daily number since June 6.

At a news conference, PremierFranoisLegaulturged residents to limit social gatherings indoors to avoid a return to the level of infectionseen lastthe spring, when there wereoften 800 or more cases a day.

Earlier in the day, Education MinisterJean-Franois Roberge announced studentswill be allowed to participate in school sports and extracurricular activities starting Monday.

Robergesaid students will be allowed to interact with those in their own class bubbles as well as with students in two other groups.

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Wear a mask or face coveringwhen physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
  • Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
  • Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
