COVID-19 in Quebec: What you need to know Friday

• Quebec reported 879 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and four new deaths.
• Since the start of the pandemic, there have been396,034confirmed casesand11,301people have died.
• There are 207people in hospital (an increase of nine),including 72 in intensive care(an increase of two).
• 27,233vaccine dosesadministered were reportedfor a total of12,570,901doses administered in Quebec.
• 87per cent of the eligible population in the province (age 12 and up) hasreceived one dose of vaccine, and 81per cent have received two doses.

So far, the month of September has beenmarked by a steady increase in daily confirmed cases and an even more noticeable increase in hospitalizations.

Since Sept. 1, the province is reporting an average of 667 cases per day.

The number of people in hospital 207 is the highest it's been since June 15.

Despite COVID-19 hospitalizations more than tripling in the last month, the province's capacity for coronavirus patients is not expected to be exceeded in the short term, according to the latest report from Quebec's health-care research institute.

On Twitter, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dub shared data about the vaccination status of people recently admitted to hospital and intensive care units.

Out of ten people who were admitted to intensive care units due to COVID-19 on Sept. 8, nine were not adequately vaccinated.

Out of the 21 patients admitted to hospital on that same day, 15 were not adequately vaccinated.

"These rates are similar in the last seven days," Dub tweeted. "Conclusion: vaccinations help reduce hospitalizations and avoid intensive care."

Although the passports are now required,strict enforcement of the new rules won't begin until Sept. 15.
