Fire forces evacuations at Milano grocery store, apartments

A fire is underway at the building that houses Milano's grocery store on St-Laurent Boulevard in La Petite-Patrie neighbourhood.

Montreal police say fire appears to be accidental in nature

Residents were forced from their homes after a fire started at thebuilding that houses theMilanogrocery store in La Petite-Patrieneighbourhood.

The fire started from a cigarette that was in a flower pot outside of the second floor of an apartmenton St-Laurent Boulevard near Belanger Street.

Two firefighters were transported to hospital, but all residents made it out safely.

The extent of the damage is not yet known.

The lawyer forPierinoDiTonno, the82-year-old photographer who lives in an apartment owned byMilano'sandfought and won against an eviction from the store, said DiTonnois safe but thathis apartment was damaged.
