Provincial police said Thursday four people were in a mobile home when it was swept down the river and got caught under a bridge. One of the four died and another is still missing.

Another home was carried away by the flood, and trees were uprooted as more than 70 millimetres of rain fell.

Two main roads into the area are closed, and about 20 people have been moved out of the town.

Some had to be rescued by firefighters in boats.

About 75 people in the town have been stranded by washed-out bridges, according to the Gasp fire department Chief Carl Sinnett.

His department has three boats ready in case they need food or other supplies.

Police are bringing a helicopter and divers Thursday to survey the damage, and search for the missing person.

They said they expected water levels in the town to go down to normal within a matter of hours, and that no more people were in danger.
