Highway 20 eastbound reopens near Ontario border after pileup

Highway 20 eastbound has reopened near the Ontario border after a pileup involving seven 18-wheeler trucks.

Highway 20 eastbound has reopened near the Ontario border after a pileup involving seven 18-wheeler trucks.

Police say icy road conditions are to blame for the collisions, which occurred just before 4 a.m.

One truck was completely ripped open, its cargo strewn across the roadway, while another did a 180-degree turn.

A truck driverwas sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 20 is closed eastbound between kilometre 2 andkilometre 14, near Rivire-Beaudette, and it's unclear when it will reopen.

At one point, only one lane available westbound in the same area due to debris strewn on the highway. Both westbound lanes are now open.

Traffic was at a standstill in the area for most of the morning.
