It's beginning to look a lot like...victory

On Friday, Dec 1, CBC Montreal competes against 12 other teams for the title of "favourite holiday tree" in a charity event benefiting West Island Community Shares.

Ornaments? Check. Strategy? Check. Insatiable desire for victory? Triple check.

On Friday,Dec1, CBCMontreal will vieagainst 12other teams for the title of "favourite holiday tree" in a charity eventbenefitingWest Island Community Shares.

Last year, the team came third. This year, armed witha whole new strategy anda secret weapon, they're going for gold.

The event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. at PlazaPointe-Claire and is part of WICS and CBC's"Light Up Our Community" campaign.

Each team has45 minutes to decorate an unadorned tree. The end results are posted online and thepublic then gets to vote fortheir favourite. You can place your vote here.

After last year's crushing defeat, team leader Julie Melansonhas taken the year to rebuild.

"Last year's offering was magnificent, but thisyear we're going in a whole new direction. I've got a new team, a new vision and I'm ready to take it to the next level", she says.

With firstchairdecorator SonaliKarnickoff on mat leave, Melanson had big shoes to fill.EnterSabrinaDegni, star ofCBC's Great Canadian Baking Show, whose vision and eye for detail will hopefullycatapult the team into first place.

Though some might feel like the team's insatiable hunger for victory contrasts with thelight-hearted nature of event, CBCMontreal maintains that they'll be gracious participants, no matter what the outcome.

"At the end of the day, it's for a good cause, so everyone's a winner. But also, we will be the winner", says Melanson.

The event is free and open to the public. CBCMontreal will be at Plaza Pointe-Claire all day in support of West Island Community Shares as part of their "Light up the Community Campaign". Join Shawn Apel, Sue Smith and Debra Arbecfor for a day of music, stories and giving.
