Joly was the dark horse in Montreal's 2013 mayoral race, coming out of nowhere to place second behind winner Denis Coderre. After losing that election, Jolyswore she wouldn't jump into federal politics at least not for the 2015 election.

However,Joly, whois close to the family of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and has been a rumoured Liberal candidate for years, announced her candidacy in the riding in February.

Joly willface off against riding incumbentMariaMourani, a former Bloc MP who is now running as anNDP candidate.
