Speed limit to drop to 20km/h on 4 Montreal streets

The speed limit for some downtown Montreal streets will soon be cut by half in an effort to encourage pedestrians, cyclists and residents to better share the road.

Earlier this week, the Ville-Marieboroughapproved reducing the speed limit on stretches of St-Paul, Bishop, De La Gauchetire and mery streets.

The speed limit will be dropped from40 km/h to 20 km/h on:

• Bishop Street between De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Sherbrooke Street.
• St-Paul Street between Place Jacques-Cartier and Bonsecours Street.
• De LaGauchetire Street between St-Laurent Boulevard and Sanguinet Street.
• mery Street between Sanguinet and St-Denis streets.

The decision goes hand-in-hand with the recent overhaul of those streets and addition of wider sidewalks and new street lights.

The ongoing construction onDe LaGauchetireandSt-Paul streets is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
