Montreal taxi organization says airport moving ahead with new rules

The Montreal Taxi Owners Collective says the city's airport authority isn't willing to collaborate or delay the onset of new rules coming this fall for drivers who serve the Montreal-Pierre ElliottTrudeau airport.

The ADM announced new rules for taxi drivers starting on November 15.

They will include a new dress code for drivers, as well as new guidelines around what kinds of cars can be used as taxis.

The airport authority is requesting all cars being used be fewer than four years old. It would also like at least 100 of the 310approved taxis to be Hybrids or electric vehicles.

Stephane Mayer, spokesman for the Taxi Owners Collective, hoped they would delay implementing some of these rules because of the stress they put on taxi drivers.

However, he said the airport authorities refused his demands, saying they've already received over 3,000 applications for fall permits.

Permits are handed out on a lottery basis. In total, 310 permits will be granted.
