Flooding possible with incoming downpour, Environment Canada warns Quebecers

A downpour is headed for the Montreal area and could cause flooding in some areas, according to Environment Canada.

A downpour is headed for Montreal andcould cause flooding in some areas, according to Environment Canada.

The weather agency is warning Quebecersthat starting Tuesday a mixed bag of precipitation will sweep across the province starting in the west.

It says that rain in the western regions of the province will become snow as it passes over the central regions. Some areas in between will also see freezing rain.

Environment Canada has released special weather statements and warnings for the affected areas.

Rainfall warning in Montreal

A rainfall warning affects theMontreal area, includingChteauguay, Laval andLongueuil.

Rain willbeheavy at times with between 25 to 30 millimetresexpected to fall.

It willcontinue for most of the week andsince the ground is still frozen, it won't easily be absorbed into the soil.

Localized floodingin low-lying areas is possible andpeople are advised not to approach riverbanks or streams.
