Yves Lvesque re-elected for 5th term in Trois-Rivires

Incumbent mayor Yves Lvesque will serve a fifth mandate as mayor of Trois-Rivires, in the Mauricie region.

Yves Lvesquewill hang on to his seat as mayor of Trois-Rivires for afifth mandate.

The incumbent mayor who has been in office for 16 years won Sunday's election with 51.7% of the vote.

His closest opponent, Jean-FranoisAubin, wasclose behindbut wasn't beableto break Lvesque's16-year hold on the top job in the regional hubof the Mauricie.

"People have voted based on their priorities, and I've always worked to bring this city forward,"Lvesquesaid on Sunday night.

Lvesquehas been mayorsince 2001.

Before that he was acouncillor, amerchant marine and restaurant owner.

Going bigpays off

Lvesquehas pushed for big projects to revitalize the city,such as the$62-millionoutdoor amphitheatre that opened in 2015.

The amphitheatre has become a major tourist attraction for the city, hosting sold-out concerts by the likes ofCline Dion in 2016.

Thefive-year contract the city holds with the Cirque du Soleil has also brought booming business to the city's downtown merchants, with an estimated$15 millionin revenues per year.

Lvesque's campaign alsopusheda $50-million indoor arena, set to open in 2019.

"I'm still passionate for this city. I still have projects. I still have a vision for thiscity. I still want to fight for our city through bad times and good times. And that's why I'm running," Lvesque said during the campaign.
