Dawson College top spot for getting a parking ticket in Montreal

Dawson College has the dubious honour of being the site of the most parking tickets in the city over the past two years, according to data compiled by CBC/Radio-Canada.

Some students aren't surprised. They say parking enforcementofficers are a common sight.

"They just come here constantly, walking back and forth, back and forth, just waiting for someone to be out of time," Dawson student Russell Cape said.

Between Jan. 2016 and Oct. 2016, drivers in the area near Dawson College,4001 de MaisonneuveBoulevard, havebeen issued 4,330 parking tickets, costing them$227,288.

Eight out of 10 of the top ticketed areas in the Greater Montreal area are nearCEGEPs, universities orhospitals.

Steve Shanahan, a Montreal city councillor,doesn't think students are being purposefully targeted at Dawson.

"I don't think the police or the bylaw officers are saying, 'Ha, ha, ha let's get the students,'" Shanahan said.

"But because they go there and there are constant infractions, that's the way any enforcement works."
