Jason Peagram, 22, was shot dead after arguing with another man Wednesday night in front of an apartment building in Westmount.

Peagram, who was studying economics at Concordia University, was a graduate of Lower Canada College. He played on the school's rugby and football teams, and was involved in the school's community outreach programs, a spokeswoman for the elite school said.

"He was an outgoing student. Very well liked by his peers and by the faculty here at the school, and he will be deeply missed, " said Dawn Levy. "We're all in a state of shock."

Concordia officials declined to comment.

A spokesperson for the victim's family told CBC that family members were grieving, but did not want to provide further comment.

Police said Peagram was shot in the upper body at around 10:45 pm outside 335 Clarke Ave. between de Maisonneuve Blvd. and Sherbrooke St.

The shooting took place following an argument at the building where Peagram lived. Police said Peagram and the suspect got into a fight in the lobby which then spilled on to the street.

Police said Peagram had no criminal record. They are still looking for a motivefor the shooting.
