Quebec City mayor gets ticket for allegedly badmouthing policeman

Quebec City Mayor Rgis Labeaume will be getting a$75 ticket plus $25 in feesin the maillater this monthfor allegedlyinsultinga police officer at a recentuniversityfootball game.

The verbal exchange happened atthe football game in September, according to the union representing Quebec City's police force, Le Soleil reported Friday.

Labeaume apparently was angered after a policeman did not return his greeting, andinsulted the uniformed officer before leaving the stadium.

The mayor was at the University of Lavalwatching the school's Rouge et Or football team.

The officer allegedly filed a complaint but senior managers within the police force failed to follow up, according to the newspaper report.

The officer then sent the ticket to municipal court.

Labeaume's press secretary is not commenting on the situation until a ticket is delivered in the mail.

If the mayor chooses to contest the fine, he will have to do so in court.
