Quebec plans improved health care access

The Quebec government announced on Sunday a series of strategies designed to improve access to first-line health care.

Over the next two years, the province plans to assign family doctors to over 750,000 Quebec residents.

"The development of strong and accessible first-line health care is a big priority of our government," said Health Minister Rjean Hbert.

The government pledged a $10.4 million a year investment to hire 160 health care professionals such as nurses, nutritionists and social workers.

Someof strategies include the implementation of electronic medical files, which are meant to help save time and make it easier for health professionals to keep track of conditions like chronic diseases.

Hbert also announced the creation of six new family medicine groups opening in Montreal, the Outaouais, Laval and the Montrgie.

Fifty more clinics are scheduled to open over the next two years.
