Quebec police launch extra patrols on snowmobile trails

Police are teaming up with sporting clubs to keep an eye on the trails and to crack down on drivers not obeying the law.

TheSret du Qubec arelaunching a surveillance operation on the province's snowmobiling and ATV trails this weekend.

Police are teaming up with sporting clubs to keep an eye on the trails and to crack down on drivers not obeying the law.

"The main causefor collisions and deaths is speeding and driving under the influence. Throughout the season last year we had 34 deaths," SQ spokesperson Jason Allard said.

Monitors will look out for people who are speeding, driving while impaired or not signaling properly.

The SQ will have over 250 surveillance operations over the next few weeks across Quebec.
