The PQ's Bernard Landry says the sovereignty movement's language is outdated

Former premier Bernard Landry says Quebecs pro-sovereignty movement needs a new name if it wants to motivate young constituents.

He says the term "sovereignty" is outdated and should be replaced with "independence" to better express the goals of the movement.

"Sovereignty is a rather technical word for lawyers and constitutional specialists," Landry said.

Landrysaid Quebec should look to the example set by its southern neighbours, where July the fourth is known as "independence day."

He said by changing its name, the movement would be adopting a more international vocabulary.

"Independence is related to nations dignity and ideas and dreams," he said.
