Richard Bergeron elected to city council after recount

The leader of Projet Montral, Richard Bergeron, has been elected in the Saint-Jacques district of the Ville-Marie borough after a recount was requested by Team Denis Coderre.

The leader of Projet Montral, Richard Bergeron, has been officicallyelected in the Saint-Jacques district ofthe Ville-Marieboroughafter a recount was requested by Team Denis Coderre.

ThoughBergeron lost his mayoral bid, his candidate designate,Janine Krieber, initially wonby81 votesagainst Team DenisCoderre's Philippe Schnobb.

YvesSaindon, the Returning Officer forMontreal, saidtherecount put the victor ahead byonly 36 votes.

Initially, Krieberobtained 2,294 votes, or 29.26 per centof the vote, while Schnobb,received 2203 votes, or 28.10 per cent of the vote.

Team Denis Coderre had asked for a judicial recount, alleging several irregularities.

After the recount,Schnobbsaid he was disappointed with the result but praised Bergeron for his election.

TheProjetMontralleader said hedoes not plan to run in the nextmunicipal election, butwill stay on as party leader for the next year or two.

Bergeron is scheduled to be sworn in this afternoon.
